Joining Us

Within the organisation we have bands playing at a range of levels and each band has differing recruitment and vacancies policeis that apply. Details of these are described here.

We can provide intstruments to those joining us and tuition is available with all tutors in the band holding Enhanced DBS checks for working with children.

Senior Band

Our Senior Band rehearses music to a very high standard and competes amongst some of the best bands in the country in the Championship Section. As a result the minimum standard for a player to join us is around Grade 8. Whilst we will welcome any player of that standard, or above, who wishes to just sit in on some rehearsals, brass band competitions enforce a strict upper player limit, and as a result we only occasionally get full-time vacancies. Please be aware though that we always welcome speculative applications.

We currently have the following vacancies:

Flugel Horn – Please view our advert for a first class Flugel Horn player on the Current Vacancies Page

If you would like any information about joining please contact Richard Wilton via email at richardwilton@nesyork.org or call 07973442249

Concert Band

Whilst our Concert Band has no upper player limit we do sometimes get specific vacancies coming up, and due to the sheer number of concerts that the ensemble carries out, it is important that we fill any vacancies that we do have as soon as possible.

Whilst we would welcome any player of Grade 5 standard or above, we currently have the following specific gaps that we are looking to fill:

All Percussion

If you would like any information about joining please contact David Gregg on 07510 603373 or email us at sg.concert.band@googlemail.com

Youth Band

Our Youth Band will accept any player of around Grade 3 standard or above to come join us, and as with our Concert Band we have no direct upper player limits. Whilst we happily accept adults into the Youth Band who are learning themselves, due to the rules of Youth Band contesting, which we are looking to get more involved with, we are specifically looking to recruit players up to the age of 21.

We are always on the look out for any young player who wishes to learn with us, but at present we are especially on the look out for:

Percussionists
Bass end players

Brass Academy/Brass Roots

Both our Brass Academy and Brass Roots ensembles are designed for beginners, and resultantly we will happily welcome anyone of any age who wants to learn with us. We have a large store of instruments and can provide instruments to take home and practice on to all new players.
