🎺 Modular 20 🎺 Here’s a short clip of our incredible encore from a few weeks ago, featuring 138 players on stage! We commissioned the amazing Liz Lane - Composer to create a piece that reflected our support from the Shepherd family and the result was bang on. Innovation, Family, Together were all key themes and we were thrilled with the outcome. The piece features a whole percussion section using metal and wood, replicating the sounds of the factory and industry behind the Shepherd family and our rehearsal facilities, as can be heard in the clip below!Modular 20 is now available here: www.lizlane.co.uk/items-for-sale/modular-2020% of all sales also go directly to our amazing collaboration with I Can Play with Brass Roots project, allowing us to continue the amazing work with our partners at National Centre for Early Music. ... 🎬📽️🎺🎵🎼🥵 ❤️💛🖤 That's a wrap!!! 🖤💛❤️🥵🎼🎵🎺📽️🎬Just before members of the band broke up for a well earned rest over the summer, we had one more exciting, and rather unexpected, project which we were approached about earlier this week. This afternoon members of senior, concert and youth band, made their way to the University of York to film promotional material for the 20th series of Strictly Come Dancing, which comes to screens in Autumn 2024.The (hot & sweaty) band assisted Strictly dance star Katya Jones with filming for a promotional feature which will air on the BBC Morning Live magazine programme at the end of August. Katya wowed the band, a small crowd from the university, and Richard Wilton with her expert dance moves, whilst the band accompanied with the Strictly theme tune. The programme will air in late August following which it will be available to view via BBC iPlayer!Massive thanks go to Mike Pratt for getting a band together and liaising with the BBC 👏💪🍻 ... Another weekend of music making and solidarity for the Shepherd Group Brass Band community this week, as Saturday saw players don their uniforms at the crack of dawn to represent the Silksworth Banner Group at the 138th Durham Miners' Gala. The coach left the band room bright and early at 5:30am, travelling via Silksworth village, arriving in Durham City to lead the parade as first band off at 8am. Despite the inclement weather, the band proudly marched the banner through the town centre to a rousing rendition of popular road march "Slaidburn", stopping outside The County Hotel to invigorate the crowds with their showpiece performance of "The Great Escape". The band then continued in triple time down to the cricket ground to the lively beat of "On the Quarter Deck". At the cricket ground, players solemnly commemorated lost miners and the Silksworth community with their evocative performance of the miners hymn "Gresford" in front of the banner.Following a hearty breakfast and some drinks in the city, the band dodged the rain and marched the banner out in the afternoon with "True & Trusty" and "Ballerina", whilst also performing some party classics such as YMCA, Happy and Hi-Ho Silver Lining to the crowds lining the parade route. The band's performance of "Is this the way to Amarillo?" at Elvet steps drew cheers of delight from the enthusiastic crowds, before tired players retired to Silksworth legion for a buffet tea, returning to York for 8pm!Despite the wind and rain this year, the band had a long but enjoyable day, and special thanks go to the Silksworth Banner Group organisation, whom we are proud to support. See you all next year (and fingers crossed for some sunshine)! ... See MoreSee Less
